The story of Pharmarium

Pharmarium is a cocktail bar at Stortorget 7 in Gamla stan that opened in 2013. Its name and theme come from the site's past. On 21 March 1575 the Dutch apothecary Anthonius Busenius, who served Gustav Vasa, Erik XIV and Johan III, was allowed to move part of the royal medicine store out of the palace to Stortorget and sell remedies to the public. The pharmacy, later known as Schmidtens apotek, stayed here until 1625 before moving to Tyska brinken.

Its shelves held everything from medicines and poisons to mummy powder, ivory and unicorn horn. The bar picks up the theme with drinks built on herbs and spices, and dark wooden walls made to look like an apothecary's store, with drawers labelled in Latin with the names of old remedies.

Eftermiddagssol, according to Stoligt

Times look wrong, for example because the terrace is on the other side of the building? Fix the location in OpenStreetMap and Stoligt will follow at the next update.

How Stoligt works it out

Every ten minutes we draw a line from each terrace toward the sun and check whether a building or hill is tall enough to block it. Building heights come from OpenStreetMap and ground heights from Lantmäteriet, the Swedish mapping agency. The times assume a clear day, so clouds are not included here. They are on the live map, which shows today's weather.

Trees, parasols and awnings are not in the model, and we don't know exactly where on the pavement the tables stand. Treat the times as an educated guess, often accurate to within ten minutes.
