About Stoligt
Stoligt shows which restaurants, cafés and bars in Stockholm have sun on their outdoor seating, right now or at a time you pick. The name is Swedish: sol (sun) plus trevligt (nice).
Why
Anyone who lives in Stockholm knows the feeling: the first warm day of spring, and the terrace you picked is already in the shade. The sun moves all the time, and it is hard to know in advance which tables it will reach. Stoligt works it out for you.
Stoligt is built by Mattias, who also made stuga.se, a search engine for cabins to rent all over Sweden.
How it works
Stoligt has a model of 20,583 buildings in Stockholm and knows where 2,448 restaurants, cafés and bars are. Every ten minutes we work out where the sun is and draw a line from each table toward it. If a building or a hill is in the way, it is shade.
- Building shapes and heights come from OpenStreetMap. Where a building has no height, we estimate it from its type.
- Ground heights come from Lantmäteriet's elevation model, so slopes and hills are included.
- The weather comes from Open-Meteo. The map shows whether clouds are on the way.
- Opening hours and booking links come from OpenStreetMap and from the places' own websites.
Trees, awnings and parasols are not included, and we don't know exactly where on the pavement the tables stand. Treat it as an educated guess.
For restaurants
Do you have sun on your terrace? Show your guests. Every place has its own page on Stoligt with a small badge you can put on your website, for example Kvällssol till 20:40 (evening sun until 20:40). It links to your page on Stoligt and updates by itself.
Is your terrace in the wrong place? Most things can be fixed in OpenStreetMap, and Stoligt picks it up at the next update.
