The story of Snaps
Snaps Bar & Bistro has been in the Lillienhoff Palace on Medborgarplatsen since 1987, with its entrance and a large terrace facing the square.
The palace was built in 1668–1670 for the merchant Joachim Potter, ennobled as Lillienhoff, to designs by Johan Tobias Albinus. In the 18th century the English envoy Robert Jackson lived here for twenty years, which is why it is also known as the English House. From 1745 it served as the Katarina parish poorhouse, and today the city museum lists it among Stockholm's most valuable buildings.
There have been restaurants in the house since 1940: the cellar restaurant Fatburen served lunches here in the 1940s, and Källaren Drufvan moved in during the late 1960s and stayed until 1980.
