The story of Rosendals Trädgårdskafé
Rosendals Trädgårdskafé sits in the middle of Rosendal's garden on Djurgården, a site with a long horticultural past. From 1862 to 1911 the Swedish Horticultural Society ran Sweden's first gardening school here, and the oldest trees in the orchard were planted in 1861.
In 1982 Lars Krantz and Pål Borg, mentored by Arne Klingborg, set up the Rosendal Garden foundation. The garden is farmed biodynamically, and income from the café, bakery and shops goes back into running and developing it.
Bread and pastries come from a wood-fired bakery next door, built around a 16-tonne stone oven in 1998. Vegetables, herbs and fruit are picked in the garden when in season, and the orchard's apples are pressed into juice. From early summer to late autumn you can sit at tables under the fruit trees.
