The story of Wasahof
The building at Dalagatan 46 went up in the 1880s. On 28 December 1899 Per and Maria Andersson were licensed to serve beer and wine here, and Wasahof counts its history from that day. Back then it was called Matvarukafé 46:an. The first dining room is still in its original state.
In 1968 Lennart and Lisa Holmberg bought the place and reopened it the following year as a French-style bistro. The family has run it ever since, with their sons Fredrik and Patrik Cornelius taking over in the 1990s.
In the early 1990s Wasahof began importing oysters from Cancale in Brittany, and oysters are still the house speciality; in 1994 it received a diploma from the Friends of the Swedish Gastronomic Academy for popularising shellfish. Astrid Lindgren lived on the first floor of the same building from the early 1940s until 2002.
