The story of Svartengrens
Svartengrens sits on the corner of Tulegatan 24 and Surbrunnsgatan, in a building designed by the architects Hagström & Ekman. The Mården pharmacy opened here in 1908, and its copper sign with a marten is still on the façade. The pharmacy moved out in 1995 and the space became Restaurang Mården.
Svartengrens took over in 2011. The restaurant is built around meat: most of it comes from small farms in the Stockholm archipelago and is dry-aged in house, and even the bacon and stocks are made from scratch. Because the producers are small, dishes can sell out. The bar mixes drinks with Swedish ingredients.
