The story of Meatballs for the People
Meatballs for the People opened in 2013 at Nytorgsgatan 30 in Södermalm and bills itself as Sweden's first meatball shop. It began when one of its three founders, Mathias, came back from a trip to Italy with a meatball machine. He, Tiel and Peder spent that autumn experimenting, helped by Tiel's luck as a hunter, and the idea of a restaurant serving nothing but meatballs took shape.
The meatballs are made from a wide range of meat and fish: beef, pork, lamb, chicken and salmon, as well as game such as deer, moose, reindeer and bear. There are vegetarian versions too, and a small deli counter sells meatballs to take home. The restaurant aims to know each ingredient's route from pasture to plate and works with farmers, hunters and fishermen.
