The story of Berns asiatiska
Berns asiatiska is inside Berns salonger by Berzelii Park. The confectioner Heinrich Robert Berns built the house in 1862–1863 and opened it on 1 August 1863. Its salons, with gilding, mirrors, galleries and tall windows onto the park, rise the full height of the building, and Strindberg's novel The Red Room takes its title from one of them.
In 1944 the restaurant chain Norma bought Berns, and it became the first place in Sweden to serve Chinese food. The new manager, Jonas Folcker, brought in two Chinese chefs from a restaurant in Berlin. Today's Asian restaurant grew out of that beginning, under the same high ceilings and crystal chandeliers.
